For those out there who don’t believe in mentorship, I’ll be the first to tell you that it’s the number one must for entrepreneurship, a matter of fact for life. There will come a time that you will feel like you’ve plateaued and started wondering why you aren’t making progress. This is precisely the point that mentors will come in handy.

As an entrepreneur who had three failed businesses, I will tell you that it’s so important to have access to someone who has done it more successfully than you. But you need to also find the right mentor, not all mentors are created equal. Some entrepreneurs need mentors who are hardline no joke go-getters while others might need a softer, hand-holding approach.

I personally am a fan of those mentors who are not only more successful than myself but the creative hardline approach. Recently I was challenged by my mentor to read ten biographical books about different changemakers in the world. It sounds impossible but what that taught me was how much I’m able to retain information under pressure. It’s one of those experiences which you wouldn’t believe unless you actually went through it.

So how did I do it? Here are a few tips I’ll share with you.

Speed Reading

I was trained by Jim Kwik on how to speed read and comprehend information quickly. It was probably the best investment I’ve made to this day. Speed reading isn’t about reading every word but in fact seeking out information that is pertinent. Your brain will automatically fill in the rest.

Naptime and Breaks

Yes, napping is actually efficient for productivity. It was my other mentor Brendon Burchard who taught me about taking breaks in between projects. Every time I had gotten through information in each book I would make sure to stand up, move my body, and take a 20–30 minute nap in between.

Get Off Social Media

Within those 48 hours, each minute had to count. Wasting even one second in the wrong direction was detrimental to me. So I didn’t bother getting onto social media. Matter of fact it was probably the happiest 48 hours in my week as I felt like a productive human being.
